As a Christian, are we to look for a new America? A Better America? It is one thing to see the community we live in thrive. We want to see poverty ended, drug abuse contained and eliminated, security and safety enhanced. Christians want to see families thriving, children maturing and neighbors being neighborly. We have to desire this because this is where we live. We are part of this world and we cannot ignore its issues. But are we to look to a new better America?
Whomever becomes the next president their power will be limited. Change is not easy. Some things may change but much will stay the same. As a Christian we do not look forward to a new America, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth. In Revelation 21 when all is said and done God will restore this world to what it was intended to be. That is where our hope lies, that is where we point our attention to - the work of God in bringing about His kingdom upon earth.
In this new heaven and new earth God will restore creation. Wars will cease, poverty will end, strife will cease, chaos and destruction will be a thing of the past for God will deal with sin once and for all. That is what we look forward to , the heavenly city, a new Jerusalem, our dwelling place with God. This world and this country will never experience what God's kingdom will provide. True security, true peace, true satisfaction.
We are to be responsible citizens and exercise our right to vote. We are also to be wise to know all of history is pointed toward the end of all things and the return of Jesus. Presidential nominees only have so much power to change the nation. It is Jesus who has the ultimate power to make all things new and to destroy the very thing that plagues humanity and every human being- sin. Until then we will face hardships, trials and tribulations. But do not fret, He is coming!
